Deck Review and Interview: The Circle Deck
I saw that everything, all paths I had been following, all steps I had taken, were
leading back to a single point --namely, to the mid-point. It became increasingly
plain to me that the mandala is the centre. It is the exponent of all paths. It is the
path to the centre, to individuation.
- C. G. Jung. Memories, Dreams, Reflections.
I have often wondered about the concept of working with Mandala’s, but
I never approached it until I found a way to it through my love of Tarot
and Oracles.
The Circle Deck created by D.R. Taylor opened the door of fascination
for me, and I’ll have to admit, I’m very enchanted with this fresh, creative
concept of creating mandalas with cards. When I first received The Circle
Deck I found it to be unique, but prematurely decided it was simply another
oracle.
I didn’t really grasp the concept until I actually laid the cards in the circle
shaped spread for a reading. It’s hard to describe the feeling which came
over me when I looked down at the cards, but it was like an awareness of
tranquility and serenity stimulated my inner senses. Visually, the cool,
lenient colors, the unfussy, down-to-earth artwork, and contour of the pie
shape cards makes this deck lovely to view and delightful to work with.
This deck is practical in the sense there is no need to possess knowledge
of any advance concepts or theories to use this deck. It’s self exploration
and reflection in it’s purest form.
